1. What is 3G Video Calling?
| - |
The ability of some 3G phones to make calls whilst showing a live video stream of the person you are speaking to so that you can see and hear them as well.
2. What is 3G?
| - |
3G is shorthand for Third Generation - a new standard that permits significantly enhanced data speeds and a range of new mobile applications.
On 3G handsets you can access new services and obtain faster data speeds than you can on non 3G handsets.
As well as providing 3G Video Calling, Qtel is looking at deploying further services that utilize the benefits of 3G technology. These services include the ability to download full track music downloads, to watch sports and news highlight video clips and to access and download WAP/Web internet content up to 8 times faster than is currently allowed over a GPRS handset.
3. What do I need to be able to use 3G Video Calling?
| - |
You need a video calling enabled 3G phone (Note that not all 3G Phones are 3G Video Calling enabled).
4. What is required for a successful 3G Video Call to be established and sustained on the Qtel network?
| - |
In order to set up a 3G Video Call, both the initiator and the recipient of the call must have 3G Video Call capable handsets and they must both be within the Qtel 3G network coverage area.
5. Where can I enjoy 3G Video Calling?
| - |
To provide 3G Video Calling, Qtel has built an entirely new mobile phone network in Qatar. This new "3G" network covers the Greater Doha city area from Umm Salal in the north to Sealine beach in the south and from Rayan in the west to the Corniche area in the East. Qtel 3G network operates on top of and alongside Qtel's existing GSM and GPRS networks .Click here for Coverage map.

6. How do I know if I am in 3G coverage?
| - |
On most 3G handsets, when you are on our 3G network you'll see the letters 3G on your phone. If you move outside our 3G coverage, these letters will disappear. Don't worry if this happens, you'll be transferred automatically to our GSM/GPRS network so you will still be able to use your phone for traditional voice calls, etc.
7. How do I make a 3G Video Call?
| - |
You initiate a 3G Video Call the same way as a standard voice call. The exact method varies across different handset models. For example Nokia phones tend to present the user with the option of making either a Video Call or a Voice Call. In this case, you simply select a contact in your phone and choose Video Call. Detailed instructions are in your phone's user manual.

8. Do I have to accept a 3G Video Call?
| - |
No. On a 3G handset all incoming calls will be displayed on your mobile screen as either a video call or a voice call. If you receive a 3G Video Call, your handset will inform you that the incoming call is a video call and allows you to choose how to accept the call. You can chose to answer in full-color glory, or you can elect to withhold your image being sent, in which case the call will be downgraded to a traditional voice call.
Note: Once the call is initiated as a 3G Video Call, it stays that way regardless of the way the recipient accepts it. Even if the recipient chooses to accept the video call only as a voice call and elects not to let his image to be transmitted - the call is still processed (and charged) as a 3G Video Call.
9. Is there any charge for accepting incoming 3G Video Calls?
| - |
No. Only outgoing 3G Video Calls will be charged.
10. What will happen, if a person using a 3G Video Call-enabled handset outside Qtel's 3G network coverage, tries to make a 3G Video Call to another person?
| - |
Customers must be within Qtel's 3G network coverage area to initiate a 3G Video Call.
11. What will happen if either of the two parties having a 3G Video Call move outside 3G network coverage?
| - |
If either of the two communicating parties moves outside the Qtel 3G network coverage area while on a 3G Video Call, the 3G Video Call will be terminated.
12. What will happen if either of the two parties having a 3G Voice Call moves outside the 3G network coverage?
| - |
Nothing. Your 3G handset works on both Qtel's 3G network and on Qtel's original GSM/GPRS networks so if you do happen to move out of the Qtel 3G network coverage area, your handset will switch seamlessly onto Qtel's GSM/GPRS networks and your call will be transferred from Qtel's 3G network to Qtel's GSM/GPRS network in-call (i.e. without interruption). The same applies to a voice call initiated on the 2G network and handed over to the 3G network.
13. Are all products and services currently available on Qtel's GSM & GPRS networks available on the 3G network?
| - |

| - |

15. I have a 3G handset. Can I use my 3G phone to make 3G Video Calls to friends and family overseas?

19. My friend and I both have 3G Handsets but are unable to make 3G Video Calls to one another. Why Not?
| - |
Firstly, check that you are both within the Qtel 3G network coverage area.
Secondly, check that your 3G handsets are able to make and receive 3G Video Calls (not all 3G handsets support this particular service)
Thirdly, check your handset's network setting (via the Tools or Setup function in your phones menu) If the GSM/GPRS setting is selected, a 3G handset will stay on the GSM network irrespective of what 3G coverage is available. By the same token, if the 3G setting is selected, a 3G handset will stay on the 3G network irrespective of whether or not actual 3G coverage exists. It will not default back on to GSM/GPRS network coverage. To rectify this, please manually select the "dual mode" network setting. In this event, the handset will automatically seek and out and find 3G network coverage whenever possible but default back on to GSM/GPRS network coverage when and where necessary.
