Mobile Broadband

1. Description

Mobile Broadband service offers internet connectivity from a data only SIM to be used with USB modems, or any 3G-enabled devices. When used with HSDPA compatible devices, Mobile broadband customers can access the Internet in areas across Qatar at similar speeds to those enjoyed by customers on an ADSL broadband connection in the home. Qtel provides customers with both a post-paid and pre-paid service offering.

2. Coverage

Running over Qtel's high-speed 3.75G Mobile network delivering HSDPA download speeds up to 7.2Mbps and upload speeds up to 2 Mbps, our Wireless USB modems not only look good but perform at speeds that feel like a fixed connection. [By-the-way, HSDPA simply means very fast and very secure!]

    5. Handy tips

    1. Check out the SMS Inbox on your modem software. You can compose and send SMS really easily and receive updates about how you are tracking to your plan usage. At 80% and 100% of your limit we’ll notify you via your SMS inbox. Other important service related alerts can also be read there.
    2. Qtel’s USB modems and the Mobile Broadband service will operate effectively when you roam on one of our partner networks outside of Qatar. You should be aware that Roaming charges can be considerably higher than those we charge here in Qatar and that we can’t control the quality of service you may experience on the other carrier networks. Data consumed whilst Roaming is not deducted from your monthly plan allowance. Click here for the list of countries where you can roam and the associated costs. If you want to disable Roaming please visit any Qtel shop.
    3. We strongly recommend you have a good anti-virus protection program for your computer. Some computer viruses can cause huge amounts of download and upload data to occur between your computer and the internet even without you knowing.
    4. Be mindful of applications or programs that require large data transfers periodically. Windows and iTunes are examples that can require quite large data updates. We recommend disabling these types of updates temporarily particularly while Roaming on foreign carrier networks.

    6. Terms & Conditions

    1. When signing-up for Qtel’s Mobile Broadband service there is a minimum commitment period of 3 months.

    2. Qtel will fully re-reimburse customers for this service offering if they are unable to consistently receive service in locations that Qtel advertises as covered during the minimum commitment period.

    3. Mobile Data usage will be included in customer’s Shahry Pay Monthly bill. This will also detail all mobile data usage in excess of the customer’s data allowance.

    5. Qtel USB Modems and Mobile Broadband service can be used outside of Qatar. Up-to-date Data Roaming charges are available here. Customers are strongly advised to check before travelling for charges and availability of data service on foreign carrier networks.

    6. Download and upload usage while Roaming will not be debited against customer’s monthly data allowance.

    7. Fair Usage Policy: This Unlimited Service plan is offered for reasonable use only. Excessive and continued use of the service beyond that which, in Qtel's reasonable discretion, is used for normal consumer Service and which, as a result has the potential to negatively impact the quality of service available to other Qtel Subscribers may result in cancellation of the service. The Fair Usage limit for this plan is set at 15GB of local data consumption.

    8. During the three-month promotional offer which ended 10th June 2009, customers who subscribed to the Unlimited Broadband yearly plan received a free USB Modem. Should they wish to unsubscribe or migrate to any other Mobile Broadband plan within the first 12 months, they will be asked to agree to pay a penalty of 1 month's subscription to the Unlimited plan (QR 400).
