Qatar Telecom (Qtel) is the telecommunications service provider licensed by the Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology (ictQATAR) to provide both fixed and mobile telecommunications services in the state of Qatar.
We have a presence in 17 countries, and we are committed to expansion both in the Middle East and North Africa region and South East Asia. In total, we provide coverage to a population in excess of 560 million people, with 57.5 million consolidated subscribers.
Qtel has a strong vision and strategy to offer consumer mobile, consumer broadband, and corporate managed services to our customers across Middle East and North Africa, the Indian Subcontinent, and South East Asia.

Achievements
- In September 2009, Qtel was named as the winner of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) award at the CEO Middle East Awards 2009. The award was presented to Qtel in recognition for its ongoing efforts to support CSR activity in its home market of Qatar, and for its success in extending its CSR strategy into regional and international markets.
- In September 2009, Qtel announced the signing of a syndicated revolving credit facility, following the closing of the general syndication phase of the US$1.5 billion facility that was closed in March 2009. Facility was oversubscribed by more than 100 percent and the final facility size was increased to US$ 2 billion.
- The company made a major commitment to the people of Qatar in August 2009, with the publication of its first-ever Customer Charter. The Charter is a public document that outlines what Qtel does as a company, what its commitments are to its customers, and what the standards are that every customer can expect.
- Qtel doubled Broadband speeds for all its customers in Qatar, free of charge, in May 2009, supporting Qatar’s ongoing strides towards a knowledge-based economy.
- In May 2009, Qtel opened a new office in Singapore, as part of its efforts to expand its presence in Southeast Asia and to enhance the levels of support for its operations in the region.
- In May 2009, customers were delighted when Qtel launched Nojoom, its first-ever rewards programme and one of the most advanced customer benefit initiatives ever unveiled in the region. It operates by providing points for each Qatari Riyal spent on Qtel services, and enables customers to spend these points on a wide range of gifts and experiences.
- The 22nd of June, 2008 witnessed the
first step in Qtel’s strategy to deploy
WiMAX services in the region after
establishing wi-tribe Group, when we
launched wireless broadband Internet
service for the first time in Jordan.
- In June 2008 we completed our acquisition of Indonesia Communications Limited (“ICLM”) and Indonesia Communications Pte. Ltd. (“ICLS”), which hold a combined 40.8%, interest in PT Indosat Tbk (“Indosat”) for US$1.8 billion in cash. With this transaction, the Group has increased its strategic stake in Indosat and raised Qtel’s customers base up to nearly 44 million customers in 16 countries. This also broadened the company’s interests in Indonesia, the fourth most populous country in the world.
- In 2007 we received the "Deal of the Year" award after acquiring 51% of the share capital of Kuwait based National Mobile Telecommunications Company KSC - (Wataniya) from Kuwait Projects Company for a total cash consideration of $3.8 billion. This deal is expected to increase Qtel's role in the MENA region.
- In January 2007 we extended our international presence after acquiring an approximate 25% equity stake in ST Telemedia's Asia Mobile Holdings Pte. Ltd. ("AMH") in four countries.
- As of September 2007 the Qtel Group achieved revenues of QR 6,903 bn (2006 - 3.083 bn), an increase of 123.9% over the corresponding period in 2006. The Group also grew its mobile subscriber base from 1.3 million in September 2006 to 14.2 million as of September 2007.
- In November 2006 we signed an agreement with AT&T Inc to acquire a strategic stake in NavLink - a leading provider of managed data services to businesses in the Middle East.
- In 2006 Qtel was the prestige partner of, and official telecommunications provider to, the 15th Asian Games Doha. It was here that we implemented the most advanced technology in the region, including a wide range of local and international telephone services, Internet and data services, and complete support for the television and radio broadcasting required to support the Games and transmit it to over 3 billion people around the world.
- Qtel is a winner of the 2006 GCC Economic Award.
- Qtel is a winner of the 2005 Gulf Excellence Award.
The company is listed on the Doha Securities Market, Abu Dhabi Securities Market, Bahrain Stock Exchange and has a GDR listing at the London Stock Exchange.
- In 2004, Qtel won the public tender for Oman's second mobile license and subsequently launched its Nawras subsidiary services in March 2005, capturing more than 897,000 new customers (over 40% of the Omani mobile market) in just over 20 months of operations.
